According to technology media The Register, Intel has recently reached an agreement with IPValue Management Group to transfer nearly 5000 patents to a newly established company within the group, which will seek to grant these patents to third parties.
The report states that the new agreement expands the existing licensing arrangement between IPValue and Intel, and includes further patent combinations within its scope of authority.
The report further points out that Intel's patent portfolio for sale includes invention patents, covering application processors, logic devices, computing systems, memory and storage, connectivity and communication, packaging, semiconductor architecture and design, semiconductor manufacturing, and more.
Market insiders believe that Intel's patent portfolio may contain old patents that have not yet expired but are no longer the latest technology. Intel entrusts IPValue to handle authorization on its behalf, which can maximize patent revenue. IPValue has organized an experienced team of patent professionals to prepare to start authorizing the Intel patent portfolio obtained by Tahoe.
It is reported that this is not the first time Intel has transferred a large number of IPs to another company. As early as 2019, Intel sold its smartphone baseband technology business to Apple, not only transferring patents, but also selling over 2000 employees and devices to Apple for approximately $1 billion.
