According to Bloomberg, data shows that the cooling of chip sales has exceeded previous expectations.
The World Semiconductor Trade Statistics, a non-profit organization that tracks shipments, has lowered its market growth forecast for this year from the previous 16.3% to 13.9%. It is expected that chip sales will only increase by 4.6% in 2023, the lowest growth rate since 2019.
WSTS stated that the market is still expected to exceed $600 billion this year. The projected growth for next year will be the lowest level since the peak of the US China trade war when sales decreased by 12%.
As households and companies increasingly rely on digital devices and online services for consumption and expansion, chip sales are an important indicator of global economic activity.
According to WSTS data, Japan may experience the strongest sales growth of 5% next year, followed by the Americas at 4.8%, the Asia Pacific region at 4.7%, and Europe may only grow by 3.2%.
The International Monetary Fund lowered its global growth forecast last month and stated that 2023 may be more difficult than this year. The Bloomberg economic model shows that the likelihood of a US economic recession within the next 24 months is 100%.
